Simple architecture is not a lack of ambition. It is a bet that the first version of a system should be easy to understand, easy to operate, and easy to replace in parts.
A boring service, a managed database, and clear boundaries can carry a product much further than people expect. Complexity can always be added later, but it is much harder to remove once it has spread through the whole codebase.
The useful question is not whether an architecture is impressive. The useful question is whether it lets the team ship, debug, and improve the product without needing a meeting every time something changes.
